T. Dianne Bellamy Small is a native of Winston-Salem, living in Greensboro since 1976. She is a 1974 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and the 2021 recipient of the UNC BAR Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Alumni Award. She received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1983.
Dianne served as an election official for 26 years and was elected to the Greensboro City Council from 2003-2013 and is currently serving her second term on the Guilford County Board of Education and as Vice chair in 2018. She characterizes herself as a "servant leader" with her mantra, "Inform, Empower, Engage."
Dianne has uses her resources and influence to assist people in this community and beyond from birth to death.
She is well known as a singer and African American storyteller, the "SongTeller". She is a member of St. Matthew's UMC where she is a Lay Speaker and trainer. She is a UMC Certified Lay Minister.
Dianne has 3 sons, Andrew, Jr., Jason and David and 14 grandchildren.
Dianne believes that government has a responsibility to enhance the quality of life for all people. She was the visionary behind the homeless day center known as the IRC; the Guilford County Family Justice Center, the Ruth Wicker Women's Memorial at Barber Park and Transition Network Reentry Services. She believes her leadership journey is because of 'Who sent her'.
She was honored by the Greensboro Aquatic Center in 2022 with the T. Dianne Bellamy Small Learn to Swim Service Award recognizing individuals who make outstanding contributions to the GAC/GCS Learn to Swim Program for 2nd Graders in Guilford County. The GCS/GAC Learn to Swim Program reached a milestone of serving 11,000 second graders since 2011. Dianne has served as a volunteer instructor and advocate since 2011. She was one of the first recipients of the MLK Everyday Champions Award: Honoring Local Human Rights Pioneers in 2023 given by the Greensboro Human Rights Commission and The Reentry Expert Judicially Triumphant Award Ceremony in April.
One of the guiding forces in her life has been Proverbs 3:4-6.
